St Helen's - small but beautiful

Thank you for all your hard work at the concert. Audience was very appreciative and our part of the collection was over £90 which is great.

The programme was nearly all new and since it was hot on the heals of us just finishing the season not an easy gig.

Lots of pleasing playing noticeable Michael's Highland pipes. Need to just tidy the end. Good 12th street, lovely hymn, super Jay with Sway and Sing rocking.

We need to tidy "Barney's Tune" the middle 8 bars, and the end of the bass trom solo and start of the whistling. Also need to just settle "Batman" and get more from the dynamics in "Pirates" too in which the 12/8 was very impressive.

Will e mail the church to thank them for making us so welcome on our return visit x

Oh it's us....

The lovely Mary Hiles has posted some of her videos on YouTube. She filmed the combined band performance towards the end of the Rylstone season. "All through the night" is pleasing with a fairly full sound and many stylish moments especially from youth band leads Toby top man and eupy Jay. Some tuning issues but such is life. Michael performance of "Acrobat" was one of the best he did all season & it's not an easy piece so well done. Will up load them to the blog as they are added x

RAFA gig - Well played and with little rehearsal. Have to say went much better than I expected. Great to get the "wings" 4 the uniforms.

Rehearsals - solid rehearsal Thursday - we are now in a settling and sorting period. Need to regroup and bond with our new placings after the uni departures.

Dan C - has broken his leg during a game of football, and will b out of action 4 a while ;-(

Sandra - on the mend back after half term

Julia - also on the mend, back soon hopefully

Glen - change in Glen's plans mean he will be with us for a little while longer before moving on which is great news for the band and we hope to see him on Thursday

According to the official Disney Christmas count down its 102 days, 15 hours and 19 mins till Christmas. Never mind about quiet contemplation of the miraculous gift of the baby king lets all eat too much, spend to much and then row with auntie Betty regarding her offensive opinions on your parenting skills................however........



I would rather do one Xmas gig rather than lots of caroling etc. We have been offered such a gig at St Michael's Haylands. We had a super pre season concert there and they are very keen for us to return. The proposed date is Saturday Nov 28th 7pm start done by 9pm if not before.

First half youth band second senior and combined carols maybe?

I know staurdays are a bit of a pain but it means we will be done before the December rush starts and we can then chill with rehearsals till we decide to break for the holiday. What do you think?

What a good start to the winter rehearsal season and useful preparation for the RAF gig. well done everyone x

But the star of the show was Michael G not only for his excellent cornet playing but for his whistling.....fabulous. I'm off to buy a poncho and a large floppy moustache as a reward.

Goodbyeeeeeee!

On Thursday we say thank you and good bye to Tom, Toby and Glen. These three have been an integral part of the band during their time with us. They have all played principle seats and have led the band with style and maturity through many a concert and to many a contest success. We thank you warmly and wish you well in all that you do.

Tom is off to read English literature at Royal Holloway

Toby is of to Leeds to read Music

Glen is training to be a combat medical technician in the Royal Army Medical Corp. but hopes to keep playing in his spare time

As you know Sandra has been unable to join us for the season as she fell and broke her wrist and has been in plaster all summer. I phoned her and she is in good spirits but fed up with the whole situation. She hopes to be "de-plastered" in time for the autumn rehearsal season.

Plan to phone Mike W today who is also under the weather. Will let you know how he is.
