A short history of the band.....
Ryde Concert Band circa. 1980's
Following on from the successful launch of the senior band in 1947 the band was strengthened when the then MD and former RM colour Sergeant, Mr Maurice Keat, formed a youth band. Mr Steve Johnstone, senior bands principle cornet and peripatetic bras tutor, took up the baton. Within a year the band was able to under take its own concert programme and attend contests on the mainland where it had notable success especially at the Wessex Annual Festival.

Along side their competition and concert success the youth band were busy entertaining locals and visitors alike and were also featured on BBC's Multi coloured 'Swap Shop'
Change of MD led to a change of focus and the youth band was eventually merged in with the Senior Band until Mrs Mary Teague became resident MD and relaunched the youth band in 2002 under the new name Vectis Brass IOW. Just as before, numbers quickly grew and the youth band under took their first contest securing 1st place at Wessex Contest. They performed a hymn and Eric Balls 'Indian Summer' against 5 other young bands.

Moving up a gear the youth band then tried its hand at the Southern County Entertainment Contest where bands have the stage for a 20 minuet performance and are judged on all aspects of performance and musicianship. They were delighted to take the highest placed youth/3rd section band.
Wessex Ent. Champions 2007
The youth band had its most successful contest result to date in 2010 when it was awarded best youth band, best training band and overall best band at the Wessex contest. A fitting marker for such a hard working band.
