Christmas Concerts -near and far

Well done team VB on two really pleasing concerts. Both new to us, both with much new music and in two new venues. Thursday 27th Nov saw us driving miles and miles ( well about 12 miles actually) all the way over to Freshwater, to support Phillip and his family, with their new charity which raises funds for Africa. Just remember Philip and Sandra drive that distance and back to band every week.

Here's Philip on one of his amazing trips :-)

I was a little unsure, as was Joy, how it would go. We had good publicity but it was still unsure territory. I was even more unsure when just after arriving the whole church was plunged into darkness, when the lights tripped. Having sorted that out we set up to play. Full house, which was great :-) I was really pleased with the concert especially Philips solo which really was quite special and lovely for all his family and friends to see. The band delivered a good concert and the audience loved it x Well done to all youth band members especially. Great applause and some lovely comments from the audience. Lovely support for the church with tea and biscuits all round. £400 taken on the door. Well worth the trip, we will return. As musicians we knew we were not happy with the start of Good King W and cornet bit in Frosty. Would we do them again at the Saturday gig ? Read on......

Band takes deserved applause at Freshwater x

Saturday 30th saw us undertaking our second new Christmas job. Faye and her family had worked very hard to promote and liaise with the Salvation Army for this new concert. Slight panic when we realised that there was also a Newport Christmas Carnival was passing the venue 45 mins before our concert, meaning the road was closed but fortunately that did cause any problems. Didn't Medina Marching Band look great? x Another packed hall enjoyed what I can only describe as one of our best concerts this year. Seriously and not just because I am your MD I thought it was a very strong musical performances. Solid throughout with 1st class soloists. Well done section leaders too especially Sarah who had a horrid cold but played beautifully. Don't forget we are a community band with all ages and abilities welcome. Well done. And Good King W and Frosty cornet bit ?.......excellent. We could have taken the easy option and not played them but we took the challenge on and won :-)

Audience really responded well. Clapping the pieces before we had finished. Glorious cakes and refreshments rounded off a great evening. Weren't the Salvation Army leadership lovely? So welcoming and kind. We will be back x x
