Spoke to Mr Wood who is Company Secretary for Shankilin Theatre over the week end. Very nice chap. We discussed the theatre, the proposal that they may be running the bandstand and the conditions under which that would occur. We also discussed the '10%' fee we had been told about.
Mr Woods explained that Shanklin Theatre ( many sections charity, committee, bussiness etc. ) had been approached to take on the bandstand. Due to the very impressive success and the excellent work of the theatre, they have also undertaken, from the council, the library, beach huts and public toilets! This is to their credit I say.
The theatre initially turned down the bandstand as they had enough on their plate, but they may be able to do so next year.
Mr Woods then clarified the situation reguarding the '10%' quota from the bands and Buckets. This was NOT the suggestion of the Theatre at all. It was suggested by Cllr Pugh. ... The theatre said this suggestion was not practible and they would not be asking the bands for this at all.
Mr Woods and I then discussed how we can work together as we have a vested interest in the Arts and performance. Maybe we could put on a festival of brass, a contest again? We had a really good xmas concert there. Lots of things we can do to repay and support the theatre :-) The other bands I have spoken too agree.
I thanked Mr Woods for his time and look forward to a productive future together.
I have e mailed Mr Woods so we can stay in touch. I haven't e mailed Cllr Pugh... what's the point ;-)
Will post any further news x
