adjudicators remarks

SCABA
ENTERTAINMENT CONTEST
MAY 16th 2010
Roy SARKES

YOUTH BAND
SWAY - a good choice to open. Not always in tune and sometimes it lacked real rhythm
TO A WILD ROSE - Euph plays well but on occasions band is not so happy - watch the conductor!
BARNEY'S TUNE - well done Bass trom - some uneasy moments - whistling was in tune though!
MR SANDMAN - this is your best so far - bags of rhythm and fun
HAWAII FIVE O - well played with lots of interesting moves

A good programme engaged by the band and audience

Thank you

SENIOR BAND
SING SING SING - fake start. A good choice to start with well played
JFK - good into - untidy horns at C a little detail missing in cornets
NORWEGIAN WOOD - Tentative entries all round - soon settles down- nice finish
ROMANCE - solid intro - well done bass soloist - I enjoyed it very much
CHICKEN RUN - some good playing here - but still untidy moments creep in - a pity. A great piece played well in general.

I feel the band needs to concentrate more and you will have a really good outfit.

Thank you

Ok, I'll be anonymous as well! said...

Obviously the adjudicator is entitled to his opinion and being an 'expert' probably heard things that I didn't, but I must say I think that he and I were listening to two different performances of 'Barney's Tune'. Yes, there were a couple of minor tuning issues, but I thought it was really tight and together, the best I've heard you guys play it. Don't be disheartened Youth Band, I think he has been unnecessarily harsh and I really enjoyed your performances. :0)
